Our Story

The Breast Health Collaborative

of Texas

IT STARTED AS AN IDEA IN 2005

A group of like-minded breast health advocates created the first annual Breast Health Summit

Dr. Julie Nangia had the idea to start a free monthly webinar series on breast health news, resources, research, and other issues relevant to the Texas breast health community.

The Breast Health Collaborative makes an impact in Houston with over 400 attendees at the annual summit this year.

The Breast Health Collaborative of Texas became an official 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

Lyn Widlaski was hired as Executive Director

BHCTexas was formed!

It was a volunteer based organization that

focused on the continuance of the summit

under the operations of The Rose.

Gretchen Walton, JD, MPH was hired as the Executive Director. The BHCTexas staff grew from 3 employees to 5 employees.

The Peace of Mind Program (in conjunction with UT School of Public Health) was implemented in 16 Federally Qualified Health Centers and charity clinics reducing mammography appointment no-show rates for underserved women by 50%.
